The city of Dexter’s street department acted swiftly and worked Friday to remove approximately 4 inches of snow from the city streets following Winter Storm Cora.

The blanketing snowfall from Cora made traveling hazardous on Friday. However, thanks to the street department’s quick response and hard work, roads were cleared for residents and motorists.

“We have been somewhat handicapped working without our street department building,” said city administrator David Wyman. “The city trucks applied cinder, and with the help from MoDOT (Missouri Department of Transportation), we applied a brine solution to the roadways.”

The city’s street department building was destroyed in May severe weather. It was insured and work is underway to replace it.

It was learned the city utilized all trucks, tractors, and personnel to clear roads, alleys, and city government parking lots and sidewalks.

“We prioritize road clearing by traffic count,” said Wyman.

The street department focused on clearing primary roads, such as Grant or One Mile Road, before moving on to secondary streets like Boucher or Catalpa.

Stoddard County Emergency Management Agency’s social media page reminded residents to exercise caution when traveling, as some roads may still be slippery. The city’s street department will continue to monitor the roads and respond accordingly as needed.
