It was 65 years ago on Dec. 3, 1950, that Jay Barber was captured in North Korea and taken prisoner of war. He would spend nearly three years in the hands of the enemy. Barber, a lifelong resident of rural Essex, was a member of G Company, 2nd Battalion of 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War. He was held prisoner in various frigid locations before being freed on Aug. 5, 1953. His story is one of terror, incredible endurance, and of unheralded heroism...
