It was the winter of 1983, and it was bitter cold. Phyllis Jean Stewart, daughter of the late James H. Carney and Myrtus Cooper Carney was born on Oct. 13, 1934, in Dexter and died on Jan. 8, 2015, at the Cypress Point Skilled Nursing Center in Dexter at the age of 80. Mrs. Stewart was a lifetime member of the First General Baptist Church in Dexter, she worked all her life.
