The most contested school board race so far in the April 8 election is in the Dexter School District where five candidates are vying for two positions on the board. One incumbent, Kenny Pope, has indicated he will not seek re-election to a three-year term. Candidates have until Jan. 20, 2015, to file in the election. Hilda I. Rowland Myers, daughter of the late John Thomas Rowland and Myrtle Rector Rowland, was born on Feb. 1, 1919, in Cuba, Mo., and died on Jan. 5, 2015, at Mulberry Manor in Dexter at the age of 95. Mrs. Myers was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter and a resident of Dexter. She was a former employee of Elders Manufacturing in Dexter, she helped on the farm, and was a homemaker...

Charlotta Clara Ubelhor, 84 of Glennonville, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at the Golden Living Center in Malden. Mrs. Ubelhor, daughter of Charles and Theresia Peters Deken, was born April 8, 1930, in Qulin. She received her nursing degree from St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. ...

Phyllis Stewart, wife of Rudy Stewart, was born on Oct. 13, 1934, and died at the Cypress Point Skilled Nursing in Dexter on Jan. 8, 2015, at the age of 80. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2015.
