The Christmas season is often thought of as a time of joy, but the reality for many is far more complicated. The demands of work and family can leave little room for rest, turning the season into a source of stress. Exhaustion piles up, and the challenges of the holidays can feel overwhelming. For some, the season isn’t just stressful—it’s deeply painful.
Trials and hardships are part of the human experience, and they often feel magnified during the holidays. Sadness, sickness, loneliness, loss, turmoil, and addiction touch lives in ways that no one is immune to. These struggles remind us that while Christmas brings moments of celebration, it also highlights the brokenness of our world.
Unfortunately, God’s Word does not promise us a life free from troubles. It does however assure us that God is present with us through every trial. As Zephaniah 3:15 reminds us, He is “in our midst.” His love brings us peace, not by removing our hardships, but by walking with us through them.
As Christians, we have the comfort of knowing that a day is coming when all fears, enemies, troubles and judgments will be removed. But we don’t have to wait for that day to rejoice. Our faith allows us to rejoice in the promise itself. Yes, we eagerly anticipate Christ’s return, but we must also remember that He is with us now—guiding us, comforting us, and loving us with infinite compassion. This is why we can rejoice in the Lord always: because He is ever-present and faithful to His promises.
In today’s world, the joy and peace of Christmas are often overshadowed by the pursuit of fleeting happiness. Ironically, it’s this very chase that adds to our stress. When we focus on temporary pleasures, we lose sight of the true source of joy and peace. By fixing our eyes and hearts on Jesus, we discover a peace that transforms our perspective.
Instead of being consumed by the demands of the season, we are reminded of what truly matters: the lasting joy found in Christ. As Philippians 4:7 beautifully states, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
May this Christmas season bring you closer to the lasting peace and joy that only Jesus provides.
