Residents urged to prepare for two possible rounds of severe storms in Southeast Missouri

As the weekend approaches, residents of southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and parts of Kentucky and Indiana are bracing for the possibility of severe weather. The National Weather Service has issued warnings for two rounds of thunderstorms that may hit the region late Friday night through Saturday.

First Round: Southeast Missouri and Surrounding Areas

The initial wave of storms is predicted to impact southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, and far western Kentucky late Friday into early Saturday morning. Meteorologists warn that this line of thunderstorms will move from west to east, bringing with it the potential for damaging gusts and tornadoes. Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert and monitor weather updates as the situation develops.

Second Round: Southwest Indiana and Kentucky Pennyrile

The second round of storms is expected to affect parts of southwest Indiana and the Kentucky Pennyrile region beginning mid to late Saturday morning. These storms are also likely to become severe, with threats including damaging winds, tornadoes, and large hail. The National Weather Service emphasizes the importance of preparedness and vigilance as these storms approach.

In addition to the severe weather threat, gusty winds of 30-40 mph from the south to southwest are anticipated Friday afternoon into Friday night. While flooding concerns remain low, most areas are expected to receive more than 0.50 inches of rain from Friday through Saturday.
