Ameren has awarded the Friends of the Park Committee a $10,000 environmental grant to support recycling in the City of Dexter.
The grant money was used to purchase a new recycling trailer to expand access. It was learned four recycling trailers are currently located within the city. The capacity of the new recycling trailer is larger than the older trailers.
City Administrator David Wyman said, “We pull the trailers to the Sheltered Workshop for sorting and recycling of aluminum cans, computer paper, newspapers, magazines, corrugated cardboard, #1 and #2 plastic water bottles and jugs. This is an effort to divert as much as we can from the landfill.”
The city encourages residents and businesses to reduce waste and actively recycle.
“Ameren is pleased to support the city of Dexter with this grant to assist in the purchase of a recycling trailer,” said Russell Burger, director of Ameren Missouri’s SEMO Division. “This initiative will significantly enhance their recycling efforts and contribute to a more sustainable future for our community.”
The Dexter Friends of the Park Committee is a nonprofit group dedicated to making lasting improvements in the community. Through teamwork, collaboration, and volunteer efforts, the organization helps shape the future of Dexter by focusing on sustainability, accessibility and inclusivity, according to the group.
This grant has been allocated from Ameren’s Charitable Trust, which comes from corporate earnings and not part of a business expense charged to customers. The Ameren Corporation Charitable Trust was established in 1944 to serve as a principal source of the company’s philanthropic investments in community projects and programs.
