Food drive for Meals on Wheels underway
Food drives are being held in Bernie, Bloomfield, Dexter and Essex to provide shelf stable emergency food packs to seniors served by Meals on Wheels. These provide for the residence in case of inclement weather, and when the meal program may be unable to make deliveries.
The food will be packed by church youth groups and distributed by volunteers. Anyone who would like to donate or help deliver the meal packs can call The Lunch Box, 23 W. Stoddard St, 573-624-7234. Deliveries will be made Dec. 16-20.
Also as part of a partnership with Subaru and Meals on Wheels, retailers will donate a minimum of $300 to a charity, like Meals on Wheels, for every new vehicle leased or sold from Nov. 21-Jan. 2. Since the Subaru Share the Love Event began in 2008, Subaru and its participating retailers have donated more than 4.6 million meals and helped provide friendly visits to seniors being served by local Meals on Wheels programs across the country.
