Suspect arrested after sexual assault reported

POPLAR BLUFF — A suspect was arrested Wednesday following tips from the public after a Dexter woman reported being sexually assaulted.

Austin Davis, 30, of Poplar Bluff is being held in Butler County jail pending the filing of formal charges, according to a press release from the Poplar Bluff Police Department.

These images have been released by Poplar Bluff police of the suspect in a sexual assault that occurred Saturday at Holiday Inn.

The incident occurred Saturday at Holiday Inn in Poplar Bluff, police reported. The 25-year-old woman was attending an event and was attacked in the restroom, they said.

“She was later transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the assault,” according to a press release. “Upon a review of surveillance footage, a suspect was developed.”

Images from the footage were released Tuesday evening and an arrest was made Wednesday.

“Investigators subsequently contacted the individual, and confirmed he was the suspect depicted in surveillance footage,” police reported. “The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Austin Davis of Poplar Bluff, was taken into custody without incident.”
