Ambulance district offers free rides to nursing home patients for holiday
The Stoddard County Ambulance District is set to conduct its 39th annual Home for the Holidays project on Thanksgiving Day. This initiative offers non-ambulatory patients from nursing homes across Stoddard County the opportunity to spend time with their families at home during the holiday season.
The Home for the Holidays project has become a cherished tradition in Stoddard County, providing a vital service for patients who are unable to travel except by ambulance, according to those involved. The program ensures these individuals can enjoy the comfort of home and the company of loved ones, even if just for a few hours or overnight. The service is offered at no cost to the patients or their families, highlighting the district’s commitment to community care.
“These patients will be taken Home for the Holiday on Thanksgiving Day. After the visit, we will transport the patient back to the appropriate nursing facility. They will be allowed to stay as long as they wish on their home visit,” the ambulance district said in a press release.
Patients interested in participating should contact the activity director at their respective nursing homes. The nursing homes will coordinate with the ambulance district to arrange transportation schedules. It is important to note that the ambulance office should not be contacted directly for arrangements.
There is no charge for this service.
