BLOOMFIELD — The Stoddard County Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to release American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for the broadband infrastructure project in Puxico.

The commission released $109,733.12 from ARPA funds to support Semo Electric’s broadband infrastructure expansion and deployment.

Loyd Rice, Semo Electric Cooperative-Fiber Services manager was on hand to discuss progress, answer questions, and to pick up the released ARPA funds.

A color-coded map representing areas not awarded state grant money to expand broadband was on display during discussion. It was learned the Puxico area was not awarded state grant money and ARPA funds helped expedited broadband service in the area.

“We are done with the mainline building and we are still lighting up and testing fibers,” said Rice.

Rice said, “They are working out by Egypt Church, which is west of Puxico proper and heading towards the wildlife refuge.”

It was discovered 225 customers have signed up or expressed interest, 170 customers are booked, and 70 customers are hooked up and in service in Puxico.

Associate Commissioner for District I C.D. Stewart made a move to approve payment from ARPA funds and Associate Commissioner for District II Carol Jarrell seconded the motion. All commissioners were in favor and the votes were as follows: Stewart-yes, Jarrell-yes, and Mathis-yes.

Mathis said, “That is the end of the line for Semo Electric cooperative and ARPA regarding Puxico.”

Missouri received approximately $2.7 billion in State Fiscal Recovery Funds under the American Rescue Plan Act (2021).

Missouri has spent 12% on broadband.
