Severe weather cautioned for tonight
A morning meeting with the National Weather Service in Paducah, Ky., brought with it warnings of a moderate risk of severe weather for the afternoon/evening of May 8.
According to the multiple forecast models tracked by the weather service, there is increased potential for very large hail, destructive winds, and tornadoes. The models indicate that the severe weather could last throughout the night and into the early hours of Thursday morning.
Multiple thunderstorms fore casted for the area also bring an elevated risk of flash flooding. The public is encouraged to be mindful of the weather conditions and have an emergency plan in place. It is also encouraged that everyone follow weather alerts in order to stay informed, as conditions can quickly change and be highly volatile.
According to Butler County Emergency Management Director Robbie Myers, current forecast models indicate that the most potentially dangerous time may be from 7-8 p.m., tonight.
“It looks like there could be different rounds of bad storm activity,” Myers noted. “From 4-9 p.m., and from 6 p.m. to midnight. But it’s looking like the hour from 7-8 p.m. could be the potentially worst.”
