“Lifeguards are needed,” Dexter City Administrator David Wyman reported during the Dexter Board of Alderman meeting held Monday.
Applications are currently being accepted for lifeguard positions at the Dexter Aquatic Center.
First year lifeguards are paid $12.80 per hour.
Dexter Parks and Recreations will assist potential applicants by offering a lifeguard certification class at the Dexter Aquatic Center, 500 Fairground Drive.
Class Registration begins April 12.
Lifeguard certification class participant requirements include the following:
• Must be at least 15 years old to apply.
• Study online blended learning content before class starts.
• Complete a pre-course skills evaluation test.
• Complete swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest
• Complete timed brick event. Participant must swim twenty yards and retrieve a 10-pound brick at a depth of 7-10 feet and return with both hands on the brick, keeping the face near the surface in less than 1 minute 40 seconds.
• Participate and pass practical skills scenarios as a group and individually
• Score 80% or better on written exams for CPR/AED/First Aid Lifeguarding skills.
• Participants must attend 100% of classes in order to complete the certification process.
Open swim will begin April 22-23, from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
