***FREE ACCESS*** Authorities charge suspect in Dexter shooting
Charges have been filed and a suspect identified in a shooting that sent a Dexter man to a Memphis hospital.
According to a news release from Dexter Police Chief Hank Trout the Dexter Police were contacted Tuesday by a deputy with the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department. The deputy contacted the Dexter Police about a shooting investigation being conducted by the Sheriff's Office.
Trout said at 4:40 a.m. Tuesday, Erik Schmidt, 33 of Dexter, arrived at the emergency room at SoutheastHEALTH in Dexter with gunshot wounds. Trout said Schmidt was in stable condition and was transferred to a hospital in Memphis for treatment.
Trout said information obtained by the Sheriff's Department during the investigation led them to believe the shooting occurred at a residence on N. First Street in Dexter. According to the news release the Stoddard County Major Case Squad was activated and an active investigation is underway.
Trout said a suspect was taken into custody.
The suspect has been identified as Courtney Ranae Davis, 30 of Dexter. Trout said Stoddard County Prosecutor Sawyer Smith has charged Davis with the class A felony of first degree assault or attempt-serious physical injury or special victim, the unclassified felony of armed criminal action and the class E felony of unlawful use of a weapon. Davis is being held at the Stoddard County Jail with no bond.
