The Puxico School Board approved the employee insurance plan for the 2023-24 school year. Superintendent Cindy Crabb said the insurance would operate within the same network, but the premiums were lower.

The board approved the insurance along with the board contribution to the insurance for each employee. The contribution was again approved to be $450.

Evaluation of Curriculum and Instruction

The board was shown a break down of 2022 district testing results. The board was shown test scores from the elementary, junior high and high school level. Puxico scores were at or above the state performance level.

Crabb said the math scores have been rising for the past few years. She said the district uses the Eureka Math Program. The testing was performed in math, science and communication arts (writing, speaking, reading and listening).

The 2023 MAP testing and EOC testing will take place April 17 through May 5.

District and CSIP Update

The district is continuing work on its CSIP (Comprehensive School Improvement Plan) with progress monitoring in four areas. They are Facility Planning, Academic Success of all Students, Develop, Support and Retain School Personnel and Culture and Climate.

In Facility Planning the district is developing a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan and a Technology Plan. These plans are to be developed and implemented by May 2024.

With the Academic Success of all students the district is looking to increase the participation in early childhood educational opportunities by two percent by the end of the 2025/26 school year. Increase the number of MA and ELA advanced and proficient students two percent annually beginning with the spring 2023 assessments. Increase the number of elementary students reading at or above grade level by two percent on a annual basis.

Increase the district composite ACT score by 0.2 points per year starting with the 2023 district administration.

In the Develop, Support and Retain School Personnel the district leadership team is in the process of developing an exit survey/interview process for retiring staff or staff transitioning out of the district. Members of the team attended the Powerful Learning Conference to gain more information on successful culture building and effective instructional strategies.

Under Culture and Climate the district will promote and maintain a positive school climate as measured by an annual increase in school, student and community engagement from August 2022 through May 2025. The district will take data gathered from surveys with student, facility, staff, parents/guardians and stakeholders to determine and address climate and culture needs in the district.

Crabb said legislation has been introduced in Missouri to end the four day school week. This legislation contains language to legislate the minimum days in a school calendar. She said the district is currently at 168 days and this legislation could take the district to 174 days.

Crabb also said the SISK12 is going away as far as the student information systems. High School principal Gretchen Hill and Wilkerson went to Cape Girardeau to view the Infinate Campus system. Demos on campus of this system will be scheduled for the district. Crabb said this will allow the district departments to gather input on platforms for consideration.

Crabb said the APR is coming out and is scheduled for public release on March 7.

Crabb said the district has used seven days af attendance for inclement weather. She said the maintanence crew worked hard to clear ice from parking lots, sidewalks and walking surfaces.

Upcoming dates: Bus inspections are scheduled for February 17, Baccalaureate is May 10, kindergarten graduation May 11 and high school graduation May 12.
