Stoddard County voters elected a new Stoddard County prosecutor on Tuesday during the primary election.
Sawyer Smith defeated incumbent Russ Oliver by a count of 3,856 votes to 1,806.
In the race for Stoddard county clerk, incumbent Cecil Weeks held off challenger Deann Moore Pennington by a count of 3,316 to 2,173.
“I appreciate the support the citizens of Stoddard County have given me,” said Weeks after the election. “I will do the best job I can for them, that’s what I can promise them.”
Incumbent Paula Yancy held onto the circuit clerk seat defeating challenger Leanne Brady by a count of 3,020 to 2,374.
Greg Mathis won the presiding commissioner seat, which is being vacated by incumbent Danny Talkington, who decided not to seek reelection. Mathis defeated Ronnie Alsup 4,045 votes to 1,449.
Weeks said the 30.81% voter turnout was better than the April election but a little below the 2018 primary. Weeks said generally the presidential elections have the highest turnout.
U.S. Rep. Jason Smith won Stoddard County by a count of 4,742 votes to 711 over Jacob Turner.
On the Republican side for the race for U.S. Senate, the top vote-getter in the county was Eric Schmidt with 2,217 votes. Hew was followed by Eric Greitens with 1,751 and Vicky Hartzler with 1,108. On the Democratic side, Lucas Kunce received the most votes for U.S. Senate with 80 votes. He was followed by Trudy Busch Valentine with 53 and Carla Coffee Wright with 27.
