The Stoddard County Commission opened bids for the purchase of a body scanner for the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department Monday Morning. Sheriff Carl Hefner said the scanner will be used to scan inmates as they enter the facility to locate any contraband on or in the individual.
The first bid was from ICS Jail Supplies from Waco, Texas for $201,635.63 for a Compass Duel View Duel Body Scanner. The second bid was from Romaine Companies from Hopkinsville, Kentucky for a Compass Duel View Duel Body Scanner for $166,250.63. This bid includes training for 20 people and a three, four or five year warranty.
Presiding Commissioner Danny Talkington said a detailed analysis would need to be done to see for sure which one will meet the county's needs as far as warranties, maintenance agreement, shipping, installation, etc. A final decision on the bid acceptance will then be made.
Payment could come out of the county's ARPA funds.
Insurance
David Bays and Trey Reese presented a proposal to the commission to include Liberty National Insurance along with other insurance options offered by the county. The company operates in multiple states and has an office in Springfield. Bays and Reese said they are in the Stoddard County area often.
They will provide rates and other details to Talkington. Talkington said once this is received, county employees will need to be polled to gage the interest.
Other Business
The commission elected to leave the milage at 58.5 cents a mile and will revisit this next year.
The commission voted to revise the minutes for the June 20 meeting to reflect commissioner Steve Jordan's absence. There was an error in the minutes indicating he was present for the meeting.
Commissioner Talkington said MODOT has approved the bridge repair on County Road 784. The bridge on County Road 786 is still awaiting approval from MODOT.
