Cypress Point, skilled nursing by Americare, today reported on the status of COVID-19 testing and cases at the community. Over the past weekend, the community was informed that two employees had tested positive for COVID-19. Upon notification, the facility initiated the testing of all residents and employees and has repeated testing several times.

As of today, a total of 16 residents have tested positive for the virus and 11 employees have tested positive.

In accordance with company pandemic guidelines, all residents were placed on in-room quarantine when notified of the first employee positive, and under quarantine they are monitored for symptoms every 4 hours during wake time. All staff are wearing KN95-masks while on duty and gloves in resident rooms, and we continue to disinfect surfaces throughout the community.

The facility has established a special care unit to care in place for the positive testing residents and to accommodate other residents should they test positive for the virus. The positive testing residents have been placed on droplet isolation. This COVID care unit is separated by a plastic barrier and has separate care equipment and will be staffed by personnel who only work on that unit. Droplet isolation protocols for COVID-19 positive residents include wearing of full personal protective equipment (PPE) while in the resident’s room. PPE is defined as gown, gloves, N95 mask, level 1 mask and face shield. Americare has secured state-of-the-art vital sign technology to assist in the monitoring of vital signs and given additional guidance to employees for monitoring residents who are positive for COVID-19.

“Americare has experience setting up special units that result in excellent recovery rates,” said Patricia Cokingtin, Senior Vice President of Americare. “We are confident we can do so here. Since early March, all of our communities have had plans in place to respond to this pandemic. Should a resident require hospitalization we will plan for a transfer.”

Cypress Point has an adequate supply of PPE and if needed can call upon the Americare corporate stockpiles, as necessary.

In accordance with our pandemic guidelines, the administrator has been in contact with the local and state health departments to report the positive test results. All employees, residents and families have also been notified and will be kept informed. In accordance with state guidelines, only outside visits and indoor compassionate care visits are allowed at this time.

Located at 801 Bailiff Drive in Dexter, Missouri, Cypress Pointe is a 72-bed skilled nursing facility licensed by the State of Missouri.
