The Director of the Stoddard County Health Center, Ben Godwin, has confirmed the 19th COVID-19 related death in Stoddard County. Godwin said the patient passed away on Monday and the case was related to the nursing home outbreak.

“We cannot express, how important it is, that all residents of Stoddard County do everything they can to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. As we are learning, this virus does not affect everyone in the same manner, but regardless of who is infected, they can still transfer and spread the virus,” said Godwin. “You may not show symptoms, and you may not be affected, but if you are positive, you can spread this virus, and it may be a susceptible family member or loved one you could be spreading it to.”

Godwin also confirmed 27 new cases of COVID-19 including five related to the nursing home outbreak. Along with the new cases 36 recoveries were confirmed. The county now sits at 955 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 180 active, 756 recoveries and 19 deaths.

“Please, practice the few, simple, safety measures we have been preaching since the beginning of this pandemic,” said Godwin. “Please wear a mask when around others, please maintain a distance of 6' away from others and please practice hand washing and sanitizing as often as possible. These simple measures will go a long way in preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus.”
