James “Sonny” Hare son of the late Edgar Spencer Hare and Amelia Gertrude Dozier Hare was born on February 3, 1928 in Mississippi and departed this life on October 15, 2020 at the Southeast Health of Cape Girardeau at the age of 92.
Mr. Hare was a Veteran of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. He was the owner and operator of Hare Construction, where he worked as a bricklayer. He was a sought-after bricklayer by many contractors in Southeast, Missouri. Later in his life he enjoyed pointing out the different houses and businesses that he did the masonry work for. He started attending the Harvest Assembly of God church in Essex, Missouri in 1959. He was a devout Christian man, who loved his family. He enjoyed working outside, especially gardening, mowing and splitting wood.
On April 28, 1950 he was united in marriage to Mary Doretta Wooley in Piggott, Arkansas. Mrs. Hare preceded him in death on June 28, 2012.
He is survived by one son, Mike Hare and his wife Pam of Bloomfield; by two daughters, Angela Malloy and husband James of Essex and Regenia Williams and husband Danny of Essex; by one brother, Eddie Hare of Wappapello and by one sister, Charlie Mae Wood of Fulton, Mississippi; by nine grandchildren, Kim Sifford and husband Anthony, Tina Francis, Stacy Malloy, Rosanna Williams, Matt Malloy and wife Lauren, Eric Williams and wife Amy, Spencer Hare and wife Molly, Kirsten Williams and Mackenzie Williams; by twenty great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Guy Benson Hare, Cecil Hare, Edgar Hare and Winford Hare; and by two sisters, Inez Boone and Marie Young.
Visitation was be held on Sunday, October 18, 2020 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were be conducted on Monday, October 19, 2020 at 1 p.m. in the Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. James Malloy officiating. Interment followed at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with full military honors.
