Jasper Norman Edmundson, of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, was born on February 2, 1942 and passed away January 3, 2020, surrounded by the family he loved and many of his closest friends.
Jasper “Pete” Edmundson was born to Pansy Litzler and Jasper N. Edmundson, in their home, in Dudley, Missouri.
Jasper attended primary school in Dudley followed by high school in Dexter. After being cut from the high school basketball team, he worked hard and made the team the next year. Upon graduation he received a basketball scholarship to William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. At William Jewell, he joined the Sigma Nu Fraternity. He remained lifelong friends with his fraternity brothers. Following college, he received an academic scholarship to Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he received his law degree.
Jasper practiced law in Poplar Bluff for 50 years. His successes led him to a well-deserved reputation as a fierce litigator throughout Southeast Missouri. His “country boy from Dudley” demeanor concealed a brilliant mind and a quick wit. He worked until shortly before his passing.
Jasper also had a passion for helping those in need. He paid for funerals, offered personal and financial help for countless numbers of his eclectic group of friends and associates. He had a biting, filter-less sense of humor. Most importantly, he was a doting son and a loving husband and father.
Jasper is survived by his wife, Vicky Edmundson, by seven children, Lorrie (Kent) Busse, Matthew (Shannon) Edmundson, Jay (Kelley) Edmundson, Jerry Edmundson, Timothy Edmundson, Chelsea (Stephen) Dudycha and Leeza Edmundson and fiancé Sawyer Smith; and by seven grandchildren, Karson and Kade Busse, Bailey, Britten and Jasper “Jay” Edmundson, and Kailey and Maggie Edmundson.
Visitation will be held at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter, Missouri on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will then be held at Mt Calvary Power House Church on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
