Alan Eugene Long passed away July 14, 2019 at Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden, Alabama.

He was born July 26, 1949 in Grayridge to the late James Ray Long and Electa Karma “Kay” Long (McCoy) where he resided with his younger brother, Gary Long.

He later graduated from Sikeston Senior High School in 1967 where he was on the wrestling team. He attended the University of Missouri Columbia and attained a degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 1972.

He married the love of his life Eva Long (Cobb) on March 18, 1989.

His employment included Spitzmiller, Hobbs & Clay as a CPA (Sikeston), Burch Food Services as Controller (Sikeston), Brooks Beverage Management as Director of Information Technology (Holland, Michigan) and Dr Pepper/7up Bottling Group-Midwest as Director of Information Technology (Northlake, Illinois).

Long most recently resided in Leesburg, Alabama in retirement and enjoyed fishing, working with computers, science fiction, surveillance technology and spending time with his family.

Alan had a very witty sense of humor, reserved personality perfectly matching his soulmate in wife Eva whom he utterly adored, keen intellect and confident can-do attitude. He frequently took computers completely apart and fixed them rather than accept their failings or replace them.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years Eva Long (Cobb) of Leesburg, Alabama; son Matthew Long and wife Carrie of Lathrup Village, Michigan; daughter Julie Matthews (Long) and husband Mike of Westfield, Indiana; daughter Crystal Dye of Leesburg, Alabama; grandchildren Tori Matthews, Sam Matthews, Katelyn Long, Connor Long and Evan Dye; brother Gary and wife April Long of Kansas City; and mother-in-law Edith Cobb of Dexter.

Captain’s Log, Stardate July 14, 2019: You will be missed.
