A subject wanted in Harris County, Texas was apprehended Saturday evening near Malden after a chase involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Edward J. Vires, 31, was arrested on an outstanding Harris County, Texas warrant for aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon and pending charges related to the pursuit.

According to a report from Capt. Joshua Benton of the Dexter Police Department, at approximately 8:43 Saturday evening the Dexter Police Department received information that the subject would be meeting another individual in the Walmart parking lot in Dexter. A vehicle description and photo of the suspect was obtained by the department.

Dexter Police set up in the parking lot and observed a vehicle matching the description given by the reporting party. Once the vehicle passed the patrol units, a male subject, later identified as Vires, was seen behind the wheel operating the vehicle.

Police then attempted a traffic stop and a motor vehicle pursuit ensued. The pursuit traveled south on Highway 25. Spike strips were deployed near the city limits of Malden, bringing the vehicle to a stop shortly after.

The suspect then fled on foot and was apprehended after a short pursuit. The Dexter Police Department, Stoddard County Sheriff’s Department, Malden Police Department, Missouri Highway Patrol and New Madrid Sheriff’s Department were involved in the pursuit and capture of the suspect.
