The Stoddard County Relay for Life was again successful. Over $63,000 was raised for the fight against cancer.
Even though the threat of rain moved the event indoors, a large crowd descended on the gym at Dexter’s East Park. The evening was filled with entertainment from the young talent in Stoddard County. Dancing, singing, games, food and more filled the evening.
While the hundreds in attendance enjoyed themselves, vast numbers of purple shirts worn by cancer survivors was a reminder of the event’s real purpose. The event was to honor those who won their fight against cancer, those who are still fighting and remember those who are no longer here. With no track available to line with luminaries, they were instead taped to the walls of the gym.
Twenty teams took part in the event this year. They were: Bank of Advance, $2,008; Bloomfield Wildcats, $979.99; Carmode Family, $1618.60; Central Cats, $3,297.13; DHS, $192.30; Faith Lutheran, $2,575; Gill Group, $4,144.02; Head Start Crew, $1,125; Health Nutz, $393; KDEX, $880; Liberty Hill, $16,225.60; Mason’s Fighters, $3,093.32; Pyramid, $1,588; Rebels With a Cause, $3,115; Regions Life Green, $220; SoutheastHEALTH, $500; Southwest Elementary, $6,340.05; Tyson, $2,018; VNA of SEMO, $3,103 and Webfoot, $671.
