POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Butler County Publishing announces today its purchase of the Dexter Statesman and North Stoddard Countian.

The Poplar Bluff-based newspaper and printing operation will assume production of these publications Jan. 1

"We are very excited to have the Dexter Statesman and its other entities join Butler County Publishing's family of products," said Don Schrieber, president of Butler County Publishing.

"Effective Jan. 1, the Dexter Statesman will be published on Wednesday and a weekend edition," Schrieber said. "The content of the newspaper will be solely locally focused, with community-driven news and reporting.

"We are incredibly appreciative of the support of the community and customers this newspaper has served through the years. It is our goal to constantly evaluate and improve local news coverage in Dexter and the areas the Statesman serves."

Customers who have prepaid subscriptions will be credited for those days that will no longer be published, Schrieber said.

Butler County Publishing was formed in 1980 and began printing a weekly newspaper in Poplar Bluff. Ten years later, in 1990, it purchased the Daily American Republic and combined its weekly operation with the daily publication. At the same time, it opened Insta Print, a job printing business located on the ground level of the Daily American Republic building. In the intervening years, through quality printing and customer service, Insta Print has grown into a thriving operation that services the needs of individuals, educational institutions and businesses, both large and small, in an ever increasing market area. In 1995, Butler County Publishing purchased the Prospect News, a weekly newspaper in Doniphan. Five years later, it added the Puxico Press, another Stoddard County publication.

"We look forward to our association with the Statesman and those it serves," said Schrieber. "Through the added resources of our overall operation, we are excited to offer Statesman readers a newsy product, with dynamic advertising designs and superb printing quality," Schrieber concluded.
