PUXICO, Mo. -- Mingo National Wildlife Refuge will be hosting an Open House in the Mingo Visitor Center on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015. The open house will be celebrating National Wildlife Refuge. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. refuge staff, volunteers and Mingo Swamp Friends Members will be offering family-friendly activities in the Mingo Visitor Center area. Activities will include:

* 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. -- An Original Duckumentary: Watch this PBS film on the big screen projector in the multipurpose room and learn about the incredible diversity and beauty of waterfowl.

* 9 a.m. & 10:30 a.m.-- Swampwalk Nature Trail Hike: Join refuge volunteers in a guided hike on the Swampwalk Nature Trail. A few digital cameras will be available for loan to take pictures during the hike .

* 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. -- Owl Program: Learn about the owls of Mingo with a refuge ranger at the pavilion outside the visitor center. Participants will even get the opportunity to dissect an owl pellet.

* 11 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. -- The Monarch: A Butterfly Beyond Borders: Watch this film on our big screen projector in the multipurpose room and learn about the incredible life cycle and journey of a monarch butterfly.

* 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.-- Watkins Wildlife Rehab Program: Learn about what goes into rehabilitating injured wild animals. Participants will even meet a resident animal from Watkins Wildlife Rehab. The program will be held in the Visitor Center multipurpose room.

This is an event open to the public, and there is no admission charge.
