Janice Patterson, treasurer of the Heartland Quilters Guild in Dexter presented a check for $200 to Rob Callahan, founder of Honor Tours. Callahan is a 20-year Air Force veteran.
The Honor Tour leaves Friday morning, Sept. 25, on its 13th run to tour Washington, D.C. These tours depend upon donations. Patterson says the guild was honored to be able to donate to this "very worthy" cause, thus helping to fund future Honor Tours.
The Heartland Quilters contribute to various charities in the area. Their funds derive from craft sales, membership dues and ticket sales on raffle quilts. At their annual quilt show, a ticket is drawn to give away one of their handcrafted quilts.
Heartland Quilters meet the third Saturday of each month at the Dexter Senior Center. Their annual quilt show/craft show will be Saturday, Oct. 10 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Nutrition Center in downtown Dexter and will be held in conjunction with the downtown's Fall Fest on that day.
