DEXTER, Mo. - The Dexter Bearcats eighth grade football team improved to 2-0 Tuesday night with a 36-6 home victory against New Madrid County Central.
Dexter, which also beat Charleston 36-6 in an eighth grade contest Sept. 3, calculated 392 yards of total offense against New Madrid.
Dexter scored a touchdown in the first quarter and two more in the second period to build a 22-0 lead by halftime. New Madrid cut the margin to 22-6 when it returned an interception for a touchdown with 4:26 left in the fourth quarter. Dexter added two additional touchdowns in the fourth period to set the final score.
Dexter quarterback Garrett Henson completed six of eight passes for 170 yards and had six carries for 52 yards. Henson ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more.
Brodie Pollock and Blane Berry both had a touchdown reception for Dexter. Berry had three catches for 86 yards and Pollock had two catches for 42 yards.
Dexter's Jack Scruggs had a 27-yard touchdown rush in the final minute of the first half.
Mason Keena had eight carries for a team-high 69 yards for Dexter.
New Madrid quarterback Greg Palmer completed five of 12 passes for 75 yards.
Austin Davis had 10 carries for 32 yards and Palmer had seven carries for 33 yards.

Dexter suffered a 30-0 loss to New Madrid County Central in a two-quarter seventh grade contest Tuesday.
New Madrid County Central scored a pair of touchdowns in both quarters on its way to 252 yards of total offense.
Jamal Ranson ran for a pair of touchdowns. Ranson finished with five carries for a team-high 138 yards.
Jairus Burgess had five carries for 32 yards and recorded a rushing touchdown in the second period.
New Madrid County Central quarterback Kannon Nowell threw a 26-yard touchdown pass to Trey Tipler in the first quarter.
