SENATH, Mo. - The Bernie baseball team edged Senath-Hornersville 2-0 Thursday afternoon.
Brock Beacham secured a complete-game victory and Kyle Moore suffered a complete game loss.
Beacham allowed one hit and struck out nine while walking two in seven innings of work.
Moore allowed two runs on one hit, struck out eight and walked one.
The Mules scored its first run in the top of the fourth inning. Owen Foster got things going in the frame with a one-out double to deep right. Trey Kirkpatrick followed with a single before Blake Beacham collected a two-out RBI single to put Bernie on top 1-0.
Austin Beck was hit by a pitch in the top of the sixth inning and later scored from third base on a squeeze bunt by Gavin Brown.
"We played pretty well today and faced a really good pitcher," Bernie baseball coach Darrin Shipman said in a press release. "We had to really work to scratch out two runs. Blake got a big hit for us and Gavin executed a squeeze on a tough pitch low and away. Brock threw tremendously today. He got ahead of the hitters and got several ground balls plus strikeouts. Our defense was really good until the last inning when we made two infield errors. Overall, it was a good win versus a quality program."
Bernie visits tradition powerhouse Cooter Friday.
