The Bootheel Solid Waste Management District will be sponsoring an e-waste Recycling Day at the Stoddard County Sheltered Workshop. The event will be from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on three consecutive days, July 7 through July 9.

The management district obtained grant funds from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to help cover the cost for residents in disposing of these e-waste items. As a result, no fees will be charged at this e-waste recycling day, said Willard Adams, coordinator of the solid waste district.

The last e-waste disposal in Dexter, held in September 2014, generated eleven tons of electronics for disposal in addition to 139 computer monitors, 16 microwaves and 11,000 pounds of televisions and wood console televisions.

Adams noted it was difficult to dispose of many electrical items such as computers and televisions, and the event has been hugely successful in the past.

The following items will be accepted:

Computer equipment - Servers, desktop PCs, laptops, Netbooks, Apple computers, tablets, keyboards, speakers, modems, routers, cables, software and all accessories;

Video and photography - Blu Ray players, HD DVD, DVD, Laserdisc, VHS, Betamax, DVRs, cable and satellite receivers and digital and film cameras;

Audio - Receivers, amplifiers, speakers, MP3 players, CD players, cassette decks, turntables, 8-Track equipment, boom boxes, microphones, mixers, rack equipment and DAW;

Appliances - Washers, dryers, microwaves, stoves, refrigerators, air conditioners and water heaters;

Office - Printers, copiers, scanners, fax machines and ink/toner cartridges;

Miscellaneous - lead batteries for cars, tractors, boats, rechargeable batteries, battery chargers and wires.

The Sheltered Workshop is located two blocks north of Fiddler's Restaurant at 1118 Center Street.
