SIKESTON, Mo. - Rain halted the Dexter-Sikeston varsity baseball game Monday afternoon at Sikeston before it could be declared an official game. Play was suspended with Sikeston leading Dexter 8-0 with two outs in the bottom of the third inning. Moderate rainfall began falling about 15 minutes before the first pitch in Sikeston and increased in intensity in the third inning. No word on when the SEMO Conference game will resume was available at press deadline...

SIKESTON, Mo. - Rain halted the Dexter-Sikeston varsity baseball game Monday afternoon at Sikeston before it could be declared an official game.

Play was suspended with Sikeston leading Dexter 8-0 with two outs in the bottom of the third inning. Moderate rainfall began falling about 15 minutes before the first pitch in Sikeston and increased in intensity in the third inning. No word on when the SEMO Conference game will resume was available at press deadline.

Sikeston standout lefty Jacob Clark limited the Dexter offense to two hits in three innings of work.

Sikeston tallied one run in the first inning, two runs in the second inning and five more runs in the third inning off of Dexter starting pitcher Austin Aldridge.

Luke Williams had an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning and a two-RBI double in the bottom of the third inning. Audie Hay added an RBI double and Sabastian Mates collected an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning. Blake Wolferding drew a bases-loaded walk for Sikeston in the bottom of the third frame.

Sikeston tallied its other two runs when Dexter committed one of its four errors.

Dexter entered the contest with a record of 3-5 and Sikeston was 3-3.

WEEKEND PLAY

The Bearcats also played a pair of games Saturday at Perryville.

Ste. Genevieve beat Dexter 14-3 in Game 1 and Perryville edged Dexter in the nightcap 2-1.

Dexter led Ste. Genevieve 3-2 entering the bottom of the third inning. Ste. Genevieve tallied a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning and 10 more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to secure a five-inning win.

Jason Mattison tallied half of Dexter's four hits against Ste. Genevieve Saturday. Mattison finished 2 for 2 at the plate with a double and team-high two RBIs. Colton Averett added an RBI single against Ste. Genevieve.

Mattison suffered a complete-game loss for Dexter against Perryville. He allowed two runs, one of which was earned, in seven innings pitched. He walked three, struck out three and surrendered eight hits.

Aldridge tallied two of Dexter's four hits against Perryville. Trevor Mcdonald calculated Dexter's RBI in the top of the seventh inning.

WHAT'S ON DECK

Weather permitting Dexter is back in action today when it hosts Charleston.
