With the addition of a fifth class in track and field expectations are sky high for the Dexter Bearcats track teams entering the 2015 season.

"Our district is different this year because they are five classes now," Dexter first-year track coach Kim Waldner said. "So we are not with Sikeston or Notre Dame anymore. It's a real good thing for Dexter."

Park Hills Central High School is slated to host Dexter's 11-team district that will feature Arcadia Valley, Bayless, Bishop DuBourg, New Madrid County Central, Dexter, Fredericktown, Grandview, Herculaneum, Kennett, Park Hills and St. Pius X of Festus.

Waldner said 29 boys and 22 girls are out for track and field this season at Dexter.

Dexter returns one all-stater off last season's squad.

Dexter junior MaKayla Waldner advanced to state in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles last season.

Dexter opens its season March 24 in a meet at Notre Dame Regional High School in Cape Girardeau and continues action March 28 when it competes in a meet with over 80 teams at Festus High School.

Dexter's home track meet is April 23 at 4 p.m.

The SEMO Conference meet is May 4 at Charleston High School.
