PARAGOULD, Ark. - The Dexter Bearcats varsity girls basketball program suffered consecutive losses for the first time this season Saturday when it dropped the third-place game at the McDonald's Shootout to Jonesboro, Ark., 55-33.

The loss came less than 24 hours after Dexter suffered a 60-48 loss to Marmaduke, Ark., in a game played late Friday night at Paragould.

Dexter trailed Jonesboro 28-17 at halftime before getting outscored 19-8 in the third period.

The Dexter offense made only 11 of the 39 shots it attempted for a 28 percent field goal percentage. The Bearcats hit six of 22 treys.

Jonesboro was 23 of 40 (58 percent) from the field.

Star Taylor paced Jonesboro with 21 points.

Melanie McKuin led Dexter with 11 points.

Hannah Thurmon brought down a team-high five rebounds for the Bearcats.

Dexter (3-3) plays East Carter County Thursday at 4 p.m. in an opening-round contest at the 16-team Lady Royals Classic in Broseley. A bracket for the tournament is available on Page 7 of today's Dexter Daily Statesman.
