Marlin O. "Sonny" Martin, son of the late Marlin O. Martin Sr. and Edith Bomar Martin was born on March 17, 1941, in Peach Orchard, Mo., and died on Nov. 26, 2014, at the Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo., at the age of 73.
Mr. Martin was a self employed farmer, veteran of Missouri National Guard, member of Missouri Research and Merchandising Rice Council, was a avid fisherman, enjoyed feeding wildlife at Lake Wappapello, was of the Baptist faith, and a resident of Bernie.
On Nov. 10, 1962, he was united in marriage to Alice Shipman in Bernie. Mrs. Martin survives of their home in Bernie.
Besides his wife, other survivors include three sons, Tim Martin and wife Michelle of Bernie, Mike Martin and wife Amber of Dexter and David Martin also of Dexter; four grandchildren, Bailey Martin, Shelby Martin, Taylor Martin, and Maycie Martin; two sisters, Dene Wright of Bakersfield, Calif., and Katherine Sisk of St. Louis.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Jeanene Porter.
Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2014. Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie with Rev. Ivan Mekan officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
