The 2014 SCAA all-conference volleyball awards have been released.
Dexter senior middle hitter Jessica Lindsey was selected as the SCAA Player of the Year. Lindsey had a team-high 138 digs, team-high 72 blocks and team-high 297 kills in the 2014 season.
Dexter senior middle hitter Shyann Jines was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year. Jines had 65 block kills, a 1.87 pass percentage and 118 digs in the 2014 season.
"I was very proud for my girls," Dexter coach Carmen Morgan said. "I thought they deserved it. This was the second year in a row for Jessie to get Player of the Year and another Dexter player Ashley Brown got Defensive Player of the Year last year. We've had those awards for two years in a row. It's a great honor for the girls and I was glad to see it happen."
Morgan was selected as the SCAA Coach of the Year. Morgan coached Dexter to a 29-4-1 record. The Bearcats won the SCAA tournament for a second straight season, finished undefeated in regular-season SCAA play for a second straight season, won the 48-team Dig for Life Classic for the first time in school history and won its Class 3 district tournament for the first time in 14 years.
"It's always an honor when your peers vote you into something so that was a nice honor to get," Morgan said. "But I always say good players make good coaches."
Lindsey, Jines, Chelsea Delay of Bloomfield, Alanis Below of Advance, Lindsey Young of Bloomfield, and Morgan Baker of Bernie were selected first-team all-conference.
Addie Shelton of Bernie, Krysten Garrison of Dexter, Krista Rhodes of Woodland, Kaley Roper of Bloomfield, Kayli Tanner of Bernie, Hannah Clark of Advance, Julia Hahn of Dexter, Samantha Cryts of Puxico and Brylee Morse of Advance were selected second-team all-conference.
Chelsea Cureton of Woodland, McKayla Hunt of Bell City, Jewel Chism of Bloomfield, Kimsey Lillard of Advance and Lexie King of Woodland were selected honorable mention all-conference.
