DEXTER, Mo. - The Dexter varsity girls tennis team increased its win total to double digits with an 8-1 home victory against Sikeston Wednesday afternoon. "The girls came out ready to play," Dexter coach Kurt Lovelady said. "We were moving the ball well and we got some lopsided victories.

We had some matches that were close that I knew would be close, but I was pleased with the results. We've had a hard week so far and it doesn't get any easier Thursday."

Dexter is among the teams playing four matches in four days in the final week of the regular season. The Bearcats lost to traditional talents Kennett and Notre Dame earlier this week before beating Sikeston Wednesday.

"With MSHSAA rolling their schedule back a lot of the schools left that first week where we could have played open, and so did we," Lovelady said. "All of the schools are playing four matches a week. I know Sikeston is this week. It's nice to get the matches in, but I see a lot of stuff I'm writing down that we are going to be working on Friday and this weekend."

Dexter (10-4), which has beat ever team it has played this season with the exception of Notre Dame and Kennett, is likely to have its closest match of the week Thursday when it hosts Jackson.

"It's going to be close," Lovelady said. "It looks like all of our girls are healthy. I think Jackson played Farmington close. They are comparable to Farmington and we were lucky to get out of that match that night. We will have to come out and play well, but I think when we play some harder hitters and good servers we will rise to the occasion and be fine."

Notes: Dexter also cruised by Sikeston 4-0 in the junior varsity contest Wednesday.
