DEXTER, Mo. - The Dexter varsity girls tennis team cruised past Charleston 9-0 Tuesday afternoon.

Mary Miller beat Frederica Evans 8-0 in the No. 1 singles match, Macy Urhahn beat Cameron Wince 8-0 in the No. 2 singles match, Alexis May beat Savannah Wilkerson 8-1 in the No. 3 singles match, Destiny Robertson beat Shantaria Bigham 8-0 in the No. 4 singles match, Kalee Howard beat Deshaundria Kimble 8-0 in the No. 5 singles match and Reagan Miller beat Monica Bryant 8-1 in the No. 6 singles match.

"I was surprised with how jittery we were," Dexter coach Kurt Lovelady said of the season-opener. "We had a lot of people playing varsity for the first time today so jitters are to be expected. Hopefully, we got that out of the way and will be ready for the rest of the week.

In doubles action Urhahn-May beat Evans-Wince 8-5, Robertson-Howard beat Wilkerson-Bigham 8-0 and Miller-Sells beat Kimble-Bryant 8-0.

"We've got to work at being more aggressive and getting that easy net shot first," Lovelady said of his thoughts on doubles.

The action heats up Wednesday when Dexter visits Sikeston in a girls tennis showdown.

"I think it will definitely be a closer match than the one we played today," Lovelady said. "I think it will get harder each day this week. We handled them well last year, but we had a lot of seniors. We need to shake these jitters he had today."
