Cape Girardeau Roller Girls active in Stoddard County
Some of the Cape Girardeau Roller Girls (CGRG) members made an appearance at the Eagles Car and Bike Show in Advance on August 9. CGRG members demonstrated some skating skills and promoted their bout with Springfield's Queen City Roller Derby scheduled to take place later that evening.
Many CGRG members hail from areas across Southeast Missouri, including Dexter, Sikeston, Advance, Chaffee, Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Scott City, and Oran, just to name a few. Members who travel even farther to participate include women from Crystal City as well as the Illinois towns of Anna and Goreville.
CGRG dominated the competition in their bout against Springfield's Queen City Roller Derby Saturday night. CGRG demonstrated excellent offense and defense, eventually winning 296-52 over the Springfield team. Both teams were a model of athleticism, sportsmanship, and teamwork. CGRG's player Treblesome was chosen as MVP jammer and BruiseFairy Owie was chosen as MVP blocker. The crowd chose CGRG's 52-year-old Bombshell Boomer as Fan Favorite.
CGRG is a non-profit entity that regularly makes donations to local causes. During halftime of Saturday's bout, CGRG presented a check for $400 to the Girl Scouts. CGRG strives to provide exciting roller derby action in a family-friendly environment.
