Shirley Jane Landers Thompson, 87, of Millstadt, Ill., died at the Freeburg Care Center on June 24, 2014. She was born April 11, 1927, in Dexter, Mo., to Walter and Thelma Landers.

Shirley graduated from William Jewell College in 1949 and began teaching in Bell City and in 1950 married William Thompson. She continued teaching elementary education for 40 years and retired in 1995 from the Belleville School District. Shirley was a devoted wife and mother and a dedicated teacher. She was a loving aunt and became the "Birthday Card Lady" of her family. Although she will be greatly missed, we know her life ended as she lived it; loving God and continuing "straight ahead".

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Thompson; one son, Scott Thompson; 5 brothers, Norman Landers, Dr. Clayborn Landers, PhD., Wilburn Landers, James Landers, Dr. John Landers, PhD., and one sister, Martha Landers.

She is survived by one grandson, Matthew Thompson of Las Vegas, Nev.; and 2 brothers, Dr. Burnell Landers, MD of Kearney, Mo., and Rev. Allen Landers of Kosciusko, Miss.

A family memorial will be held at a later date and inurnment will be at Lake View Memorial Gardens in Fairview Heights, Ill.
