Gene Fields, son of the late Rufus Fields and Pauline Williams Fields was born on Sept. 7, 1935, in Portageville, Mo., and died on May 7, 2014, at SoutheastHEALTH of Cape Girardeau, Mo., at the age of 78.
Mr. Fields was a former employee of Bud Shell Ford in Dexter for 10 years and also a former employee of Richland High School for 17 years. He was a member of the New Bethel Church and a resident of Dexter.
Gene was a loving husband, best dad ever, an awesome PawPaw and an avid outdoorsman.
He was united in marriage to Louise Clayton on June 9, 1956, in Senatoba, Miss. Mrs. Fields survives of their home in Dexter.
Besides his wife, survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Terry Fields and Vicky of Dexter; three daughters, Tammy Fields of Dexter, LaRhonda Gibson and companion Ronald Taylor of Dexter and Lesa Holland and husband Brett of Dexter; five grandchildren, Chrissy Herren and husband Shannon of Piggott, Ark., Joshua Gibson of Dexter, Travis Holland of Ballwin, Mo., Chelcy AuBuchon and husband Reggie of Lake Saint Louis, Mo., and Matthew Schoffstall of Cape Girardeau; three great-grandchildren, Lexi Herren, Lindsay Herren and Brynlee AuBuchon; two brothers, Jeff Fields and wife Brenda of Springfield, Mo., Kenneth Fields and wife Patti of Republic, Mo., two sisters, Gladys Chase of Dexter and Margaret Adams and husband Bob of Bernie.
Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014. Funeral services will then be conducted on Saturday, May 10, 2014, at 1 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter with Rev. Dean Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Dudley Cemetery.
