Bearcat fans won't have far to travel to watch 2014 graduate Erika Cobb play college basketball next season.
The five-foot-nine guard signed to play basketball at Three Rivers College in Poplar Bluff, Mo., Tuesday afternoon.
"She will fit in in the back of that 2-2-1 press that she's played the last four years," Three Rivers coach Jeff Walk said of Cobb. "Hopefully, it will be a seamless transition from high school to college. Coach Allen and I play pretty much the same style so I think it makes the transition easier."
Cobb averaged 12.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game her senior season. She shot 56 percent from the field and hit 29 of the 61 3-pointers she attempted.
"Three Rivers is getting a complete player," Dexter girls basketball coach Chad Allen said. "She can go inside and out offensively, is a great defender and just an overall good person . . . She can really score. She can hit the three, take it off the dribble and pull up. She's got the best jump shot we've had around here in a longtime."
Walk, who attended multiple Dexter varsity girls games in the 2013-14 season, said Cobb first caught his eye when she was a sophomore.
"She probably never knew that," Walk said. "I'm not a hard sell. I want the kids to enjoy their high school career and have fun because you never get a chance to go back and do that again. Sometimes that costs me, but I think if you let them develop things will happen for a reason and they go to the school that is a perfect fit for them."
Cobb decided to attend Three Rivers her senior season.
"It's close to home, it seemed like a pretty good school to go to and coach Walk seems pretty cool," she said.
Three Rivers finished 20-7 in the 2013-14 season. It placed third in its six-team conference with a regular-season conference record of 6-4.
"If people thought we were quick this year, don't blink your eye next year because we will beat you to the other end," Walk said.
Cobb scored over 1,000 points at the varsity level in her high school career. Dexter won its district every year Cobb was on varsity and placed second in Class 4 her senior season.
"Going to state was a lot of fun," Cobb said. "Winning four state titles was pretty awesome, too."
Cobb is the daughter of Lonnie and Ginger Cobb. She played high school volleyball for two years and basketball for four years at Dexter. Cobb is a member of FTA, FCA and Dexter Honor Society.
Cobb said she plans on majoring in physical education at Three Rivers.
"I Cadet teach PE," Cobb said. " It seems like a lot of fun."
