Preview: Dexter Bearcats high school golf team

DEXTER, Mo. - 12 golfers are slated to compete on the Dexter high school golf team in the 2014 season.

Ethan Stevens, Drake Mitchell, Myles Urhahn, Nick McCollough, Noah Langley, Bryce Farmer, Brandon Barry, Scott Strickler, Austin Chesser, River Chism, Ethan Maul and Gavin White are out for golf in 2014.

"We've got six guys coming back who played varsity last year," Dexter golf coach Eric Sitze said. "We've got a lot of experience coming back. My top three guys carried the load last year. Ethan and Myles made it out of districts last year. If we can get our last two or three guys to lower their scores this year we will have a better year."

Dexter is slated to open its golf season at Kennett Mar. 27. Its first home match is Apr. 1 against Bloomfield.

Dexter will compete in five tournaments - the Notre Dame Invitational on Mar. 31, the Farmington Invitational on Apr. 9, the Poplar Bluff Invitational on Apr. 14, the SEMO Conference Tournament on Apr. 22 and the Jackson Invitational Apr. 28.

"Notre Dame will probably have the best team-golf around here this year and Poplar Bluff is always pretty good," Sitze said. "Cape and Jackson are also always really good. Those four schools are four of the top in the area."

Dexter will compete in an 11-team district with Park Hills Central, Farmington, Fredericktown, Kennett, North County, Notre Dame, Perryville, Potosi, Sikeston and Ste. Genevieve. Crown Pointe Golf Club will host the district at the end of the season.

"It's pretty competitive golf," Sitze said.
