DEXTER, Mo. - The Cape Central Tigers girls basketball team ran into a state-ranked buzzsaw Thursday night at Dexter.
The state-ranked Dexter Bearcats outscored Cape Central by double digits in each of the first three quarters on its way to a 93-34 win.
Alison Jarrell surpassed the school record for most 3-pointers in a season. Jarrell hit four treys against Cape Central and finished with 15 points.
She currently has 73 3-pointers on the season. The previous record was 72 3-pointers in a season which was accumulated by Jarrell last season and Katelyn Heil in the 2008-2009 season.
"She spends so much time in the gym with the shoot away gun," Dexter coach Chad Allen said of Jarrell. "She used to shoot 200 shots a day in the morning and this year about 100 shots a day before school. It has paid off. She is an unbelievable 3-point shooter."
Jarrell was on of five players to tally at least 12 points for Dexter. Erika Cobb led Dexter with 17 points. Hannah Noe scored 16, Paige Patterson added 15 and Melanie McKuin contributed 12.
Dexter (18-3) hosts Poplar Bluff Monday.

ANNAPOLIS, Mo. - The Bernie Mules varsity boys basketball team suffered a 75-55 loss at state-ranked South Iron Thursday night.
South Iron outscored Bernie by 10 points in each half.
"South Iron seemed a lot more motivated to win tonight than what we were," Bernie coach Brad Botsch said. "They had their way with us on offense all night and we didn't put up much of a fight to stop them defensively. I think we are capable of guarding much better than what we showed tonight, but for some reason we weren't mentally focused on competing on the defensive end."
South Iron, which is ranked No. 2 in the latest Class 1 state poll, was led in scoring by Marcus Hampton who tallied 21 points. Korbin Ruble added 14 more, Demetrius Cornell scored 13, Todd Sullivan calculated 12 and Nick Middleton contributed nine points.
Bernie tallied 36 of its 55 points on 3-pointers.
B.J. Jennings and Jake Wagner both hit four treys. Jennings scored a team-high 19 points and Wagner tallied 12. Brandon Sparks scored six of his 10 points on 3-pointers for the Mules.
"South Iron has a great program and top-notch coaching," Botsch said. "To go into their house on their homecoming and win takes a premium performance in all facets of the game. We didn't have the mental toughness or edge to compete with a superior opponent tonight. Anytime we don't play with passion and urgency on defense we are going to lose, period. We got out-competed, out-hustled and out-coached. We need to learn from this."
Bernie beat South Iron 56-48 in the junior varsity contest.
Bernie (20-3) won't have much time to regenerate as it visits Malden Friday night.
