Prospective students looking to enter Three Rivers College's Licensed Practical Nursing program have been given extra time to apply for entrance to the cohort in Kennett. The program is accepting applications for the 2013-2014 class through March 1, extended from the original deadline of Feb. 1.

The program trains students to obtain their LPN licensure, while also providing a jumping-off point for more advanced nursing education. Classes cover practical nursing skills, preparation for the NCLEX-PN licensure exam, with instruction in specific aspects of nursing such as pediatrics and obstetrics. It was previously offered as two programs, in Hayti and Kennett, but has been consolidated into a single group following the move of the Center at Kennett to its new location at 1000 Great West Drive.

Nursing is one of the fastest-growing professions in Missouri. A study by the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center predicts that the state will have a demand for as many as 7,800 new LPNs by 2018, three times the expected growth for other careers. The field also provides economic incentives, with the Center reporting an average yearly salary of $34,178 for LPNs.

Potential applicants must hold a high school diploma or GED, and take the TEAS-V placement exam. Applicants must also undergo an interview process. For more information, prospective students should contact the Nursing and Allied Health Center at Three Rivers by calling 573-840-9672.

Three Rivers College is committed to contributing to the quality of life in Southeast Missouri with quality, affordable higher education opportunities and community services that support and encourage the economic, civic, and cultural vitality of the region.
