PARK HILLS, Mo. - The Dexter Bearcats varsity girls basketball team outlasted the Miller Career Academy Phoenix 66-57 Saturday.
Dexter's largest lead in the first quarter was five twice. Miller Career Academy's largest lead in the first half was 6-2. Dexter padded its lead to 32-18 by the midway point of the second quarter.
Miller Career Academy hit four of its six 3-pointers in the third quarter. The Phoenix cut Dexter's lead to 45-42 in the final minutes of the third quarter.
Miller Career Academy trailed 55-51 with four minutes remaining. Dexter followed with a 9-0 run to increase its lead to 64-51 with less than two minutes remaining in regulation.
Dexter's Alison Jarrell hit three treys in each half. She finished with a team-high 20 points.
Erika Cobb tallied a field goal in every quarter. She finished with 18 points for Dexter.
Hannah Noe scored half of Dexter's 18 fourth-quarter points. She finished with 13 points.
Dexter's Melanie McKuin, Paige Patterson and Makayla Waldner scored all of their points in the first half. McKuin tallied seven points, Patterson scored six points and Waldner calculated two points.
The Bearcats hit nine of 10 free throws and Miller Career Academy made seven of nine free throws.
Miller Career Academy entered the contest ranked No. 5 in the latest Class 4 state poll. Dexter is currently ranked No. 3 in Class 4.
Dexter's record currently stands at 14-3. The Bearcats are scheduled to host Saxony Lutheran Tuesday at 6 p.m.
