Bill Rhodes, son of Shelton and Una Mae Burchfield Rhodes, was born in Kiwannee Mo., on Oct. 25, 1938, and died at his home in Dexter on Jan. 24, 2014, at the age of 75.
He served in the Navy from 1956 to 1960 and met his wife, Judy Wood Rhodes, while stationed at Long Beach, Calif. They married on Aug. 22, 1960, and were married 53 years at the time of Bill's death. He was an avid golfer, a devoted member of the Dexter Lion's Club, and enjoyed spending winter months on the beach on South Padre Island. Bill retired from the Farm Bureau Insurance Company after being employed for over 30 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dexter where he had served as a youth leader, deacon, and usher.
Bill is survived by his wife, Judy; one daughter, Carrie Rhodes Botts, of Lebanon Mo.; one son, Jim Rhodes and daughter-in-law, Cindy Hufford Rhodes of Bloomfield; the "lights of his life," one granddaughter, Cory Botts and grandson, Luke Rhodes; one sister, Anne Rhodes Sweat of San Diego Calif.; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He also leaves behind many close and special friends, especially his golfing buddies, the KIller B's.
Visitation will be held at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with funeral services following at 12 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Greg McGhee officating.
Interment will follow in the Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.
