KENNETT, Mo. -- New charges have been filed against a former Kennett police officer. Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Stephen Sokoloff filed the charges Monday afternoon against Jeremy Crawford. One felony count of stealing, one count of D felony tampering with physical evidence, and one count of D felony public servant acceding to corruption were filed, stemming from a Dec. 10 incident in which Crawford is alleged to have received a tip from a local drug dealer that he had just sold marijuana to an individual and gave the officer the description of the vehicle. Crawford then stopped the vehicle, seized the marijuana and released the subject. He then returned the drugs to the dealer and received $100.
The matter was investigated by officers of the Missouri Highway Patrol SEMO Drug Task Force and the Kennett Police Department, with assistance from the Dunklin County Sheriff's Department and the FBI.
Bond has been set at $40,000 by Associate Circuit Judge John Spielman. Crawford is already charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance and is scheduled to appear on those charges Jan. 7.
