BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- A Puxico woman accused of murdering her husband at their home has had her case continued.

Victoria Isaac, 48, is charged with the Class A felony of murder in the first degree.

Scheduled to appear in court last week, Isaac's case was continued until March 12, 2014.

The case, which began proceedings in May, was first carried out in a Stoddard County courtroom before Judge Joe Satterfield. In July, Isaac waived her right to a preliminary hearing.

She was then sent before Judge Robert Mayer where, in August, she entered a plea of not guilty due to mental disease or defect. Had Isaac not entered such a plea, no information regarding mental disease could have been brought forward at trial.

In order for such a plea to be accepted, however, a pretrial evaluation must take place.

Before that could be ordered, however, Isaac requested a change of venue. By agreement, the case was moved to Dunklin County where proceedings will continue.

The case is set for its next appearance on March 12, 2013 before Judge Mayer.

The Stoddard County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at 8:18 a.m. on the morning of May 14, 2013 regarding an incident on Church St. in Puxico.

While speaking to a 911 dispatcher, Victoria Isaac identified herself then stated she had shot and killed her husband.

The phone was then quickly passed over to a Stoddard County dispatcher who asked where the incident had occurred.

Before Victoria Isaac spoke any further, her son, Kenneth Smith, II, took the phone and informed the dispatcher that he was in the home when the incident occurred.

When Deputy Hank Trout, Commander of the Stoddard County Major Case Squad which was activated on the morning of the murder, arrived on the scene, he found Victoria Isaac sitting on the front porch of the home and Smith standing in the front yard.

Smith told officers that he was in bed and awakened upon hearing the gunshots.

"She ended up firing six rounds into him there on the couch," Smith is quoted as having said in the probable cause affidavit.

Isaac was placed under arrest and during the transport to the county jail, reportedly told officers her account of what had transpired.

She stated that she was lying in bed and "something" told her to get up and "end him." She stated that she had planned to kill herself as well, but her son came into the room, and she didn't have enough time to load the rounds to shoot herself.

Isaac stated that her husband was on the couch asleep when she took a .22 caliber pistol from a kitchen cabinet. She said the gun belonged to her mother.

When asked what she had done with the gun, she stated that she just "threw it".

Isaac was arrested and charged with the Class A felony of first degree murder.

In the initial arrest warrant, Judge Satterfield allowed no bond, stating that she is believed to be a danger to herself and the community.
