A rash of incidents involving property damage to vehicles parked within the city of Dexter were reported to police over the recent weekend and are under investigation.

On Friday, Oct. 11, at 9:11 a.m., police responded to E. Grant Street to find two vehicles that had been sprayed with paint.

Calls then began coming into the local department on Saturday morning from additional victims of property damage all across the city. Three reports came from E. Stoddard Street. Others came from E. Oak, Walnut, Glenstone Rd., Elm St., Page St., Olive, Rainey, and both North and South Walnut, including the offices of The Daily Statesman, where the passenger window on a company vehicle was smashed.

Reports of damage also came from N. One Mile Road and Highway 114 and from at least two downtown businesses.

According to Lt. Larry Patterson of the local department, video surveillance cameras near some of the businesses struck may help in the investigation. It is suspected, given the wide area of damage, that there was likely a vehicle used in the spree.

"We're looking at that footage and we're continuing to investigate the damage," he said Monday morning.

Damage in the downtown area was reported at The Loft, Gregory's Creations, and a downtown consignment shop.
