Puxico beats Bloomfield 5-3 in consolation final of Showdown

BERNIE, Mo. - The seventh-seeded Puxico Indians beat fourth-seeded Bloomfield 5-3 in the consolation championship Friday.

Puxico broke a 3-3 tie when it plated two runs in the top of the fifth inning.

The trouble started for Bloomfield when Ricky Julius reached base with one out after he struck out. Seth Luttrull followed with a double to put runners at second and third with one out.

Chris Dunivan and Austin Rodgers then collected back-to-back RBI singles to set the final score.

"My whole team stepped up big time this season," Puxico coach Jon Simpher said. "We played the great game against Bernie and then my No. 5 hole hitter and starting left fielder suffered injuries in the last game. We were able to come through it today. Some guys stepped up and did exactly what we needed them to do and our pitching has been fantastic the entire tournament."

Bloomfield and Puxico scored three runs in the third inning.

Austin Teichman grounded out with the bases loaded to put Puxico on top 1-0 in the top of the third. Chris Siler followed with a sacrifice fly to pad Puxico's lead to 2-0. An two-out RBI single by Luttrull pushed the margin to 3-0.

Noah Vandiver had an RBI single and Triston Mitchell added a 2-RBI single in the bottom of the third.

Teichman earned a complete-game win for Puxico . He limited Bloomfield to five hits in seven innings of work. He struck out eight and walked five.

Tim Fox suffered a complete-game loss for Bloomfield. He allowed seven hits in seven innings pitched. He struck out 12 and walked three.
